A detail from a Caracas park: In the tropics there are creepers that climb up over tree trunks using them as platforms for their own leaves. Later the stems grow bark and become firm. Finally they “strangle” their hosts and become trees themselves with hollow centers. The roots of the one pictured here have not closed and have left a small window one con look through.

Un detalle visto en un parque en Caracas: Hay enredaderas que suben sobre los árboles, empleándolos como andamios y plataformas para el beneficio de sus hojas particulares, y luego los tallos se van endureciendo. Con el tiempo éstos “estrangulan” sus anfitriones, dejando los centros vacíos, y se convierten en “árboles” por cuenta propia. Él que se ve en la foto es un ejemplo. Las raíces no han cerrado alrededor del hueco y han dejado una pequeña ventana entre ellos.
