I promised some graffiti from time to time. I don’t know what this cement thing is; in fact I never noticed it before. But somebody did. Now it’s a little guy that maybe we can call “Elmo”.

Prometí algo de graffiti de vez en cuando. Nunca antes he visto esta cosa de cemento, pero aparentemente alguien sí la notó. Ahora tiene personalidad propia, es un hombrecillo y tal vez lo podemos llamar “Elmo”.

They are poetry in concrete, like Roman aquaductos, even if what they carry are polluting and anti-ecological.

Buildings through the trees / Edificios detrás de los árboles

Far from the buildings, throughways, traffic, the sea is behind the camera, and the trees give some shade. This doesn't mean that those arching traffic bridges aren't lovely, too. When I can I'll take their picture.

Miami is the city of the two faces: a) the trained dolphins that work for the tourists and the owners of the Seaquarium, and b) the injured manatees that are often treated and returned to the wild by the same institution. It is also the place where people build their homes around artificial lakes in old wetlands, thus lowering the water table where the alligators and other wildlife still try to survive.

Miami es la ciudad de las dos caras: a) los delfines que trabajan para los turistas y para los dueños del Seaquarium con sus trucos, y b) los manatees heridos que a menudo reciben tratamiento antes de ser devueltos a su propio mundo por medio de la misma institución. También es el lugar donde las personas construyen sus viviendas alrededor de lagos artificiales en las humedales, así bajando el nivel friático del habitat de los cocodrilos y otra fauna que todavía intenta sobrevivir allí.

I’ll put several examples of city graffiti here, starting with this one, that uses my name so positively. These days most of what the kids put on the walls is boring, just signatures with standard, fat letters. I’ll try to find some interesting ones.

This is Soto’s great ball of sunlight. At night it is Caracas’ own midnight sun. It can be found just south of Parque del Este.
