Tacarigua Lagoon / Laguna de Tacarigua

English: A lovely weekend in a dear friend's beach house. Here are some pictures of the area around the Tacarigua lagoon and the beach.
Español: Un hermoso fin de semana en la casa de una querida amiga. Las primeras fotos demuestran escenas de los pueblos. Despues se puede apreciar la playa sobre el Caribe. Las siguientes imágenes son de la laguna.

English: The pictures below were taken at the edge of the lagoon. The first ones show how it has begun to invade the town of Belen because it shrunk in the dry weather and lost its way out to sea. Now with the rains it has nowhere else to go.
Español: Las de abajo son de la laguna. Las primeras demuestran como ella invade el pueblo de Belén porque todavía no han escavado una nueva salida al mar: la sequía la encogió y ahora con las lluvias ella crece de nuevo, pero hacia las casas.

English: I looked up the name of this plant. The flower just appeared on a large-leafed ornamental plant that I have had for over 15 years. It seems to be a Aglaonema marantifolium Blume (Araceae).
Español: Acabo de buscar el nombre de esta mata. La flor que se ve en la foto acaba de aparecer por primera vez en una mata que he tenido por más de quince años. Se llama: Aglaonema marantifolium (Araceae). Es una mata de hojas anchas muy común en los jardines parecida a las "orejas de elefantes": ¿Alguien conoce el nombre común?

Caracas traffic this week has been exacerbated by several factors including the rain, political meetings and the kids that are everywhere, paining yellow lines along the road-shoulders and slogans on the walls in favor of their party.

Las largas colas en Caracas esta semana se debían a varios factores incluyendo la lluvia, las reuniones políticas y los muchachos que pintan rayas amarillas por las orillas de las vías y consignas en los muros.





English: Luckily in the next lane there was some entertainment.
Español: Por suerte, justo al lado en el canal próximo había algo de entretenimiento.

Murals / Murales

English: Yesterday afternoon I drove past some high school kids, the members of the new “communicational guerillas” that the government is organizing to paint the city with political slogans. So I took out my camera and shot these pictures through the window shield to preserve the murals along the Valley Highway that they hadn’t covered yet. The photos aren’t good; I had to take them from my moving car and through the spaces left by the cars in the lane that blocked my view. But here they are. Probably tomorrow they will be erased.

Español: Ayer en el atardecer pasé muchachos, integrantes de las nuevas "guerrillas comunicacionales” que el gobierno ha organizado para cubrir las paredes de mensajes políticos. En alquel momento se dedicaban a poner una capa inicial de pintura sobre los primeros murales del Autopista del Valle. Entonces saqué mi cámara y a través del parabrisas tome algunas fotos de los que todavía no habían borrado. Estas imágenes no son buenas, las tomé con el carro en pleno movimiento y tuve que evitar la columna de autos que bloqueaban mi vista. Pero aquí están; no sé si mañana estarán allí.
