Bee line / Abeja en vuelo

This bee comes from a fragment of a larger picture I posted below. I just noticed how clear it is, with wings and all. I admit to having enhanced it, though.

In the Venezuela Plaza I found these toys rolling and reeling about the sidewalk: the President as multiple, inflatable dolls. The second picture shows the whole context, the first one has the details of the little figures.

Clouds, flowers and bees / Las nubes, flores y abejas

An aesthetically satisfying morning:

First the dawn came out of the hills again like a Chinese drawing of clouds and fantasy.

Almost at once a new magnolia flower opened, first as a bud and in two more hours as a flourishing flower with bees and all. A question: Why do they cut the stigma that carry the pollen? You can see the stalks lying on the petals like wheat that some farmer has reaped. The pictures are to be found at the opening of the Spanish version of this entry.

Furthermore I am listening to WQXR on the computer radio. Very nice indeed!

Un día estéticamente hermoso:

Primero amaneció de nuevo como un dibujo chino con nubes y montañas de fantasía. Las fotos están arriba en la entrada a la versión en inglés de esta entrega.

En seguida otra flor de magnolia se abrió, primero como capullo, pero en dos horas como flor floreciente con abejas y todo. Cosa curiosa: ¿por qué es que las abejas cortan los filamentos con el polen? Se les puede ver caídos dentro de los pétalos como si fueron trigo segado por algún agricultor.

Además eschucho WQXR en la radio de la computadora. Muy agradable.

University elections / Elecciones universitarias

It was a quiet morning, the gardens were almost empty. Some students sat in small groups in the entrance to the administrative building, while the teaching staff arrived to vote.

Yesterday in Caracas the rivers roared through the streets. The small picture at the right is blurry but I’m including it because it shows a poor guy that had to climb up on a mental scaffolding to escape the torrent that coursed over the pavement.

El mural de Zapata / Zapata's mural

A reference to Zapata’a mural needs no further identification in Caracas. It is made in mosaic and can be seen from the Eastern Autopista at the entrance to the Central University. Some of the fallen mosaics should be restored, but it still looks elegant and witty, with its nostalgia for the city’s urban culture.
